some interesting things!

- So this weekend, Laura [livejournal.com profile] laurapatt gave her lecture about Béla Bartók, and everybody liked it and went on to appreciate his contributions as an ethnographer of music -- and then the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble flipped right out and danced up a storm and jumped around and made cool yipping noises and it was pretty wild. Very energetic, complete with funky costumes. Also: they tour with fantastic musicians. Never have I seen a hammered dulcimer rocked so hard.

- Today is Shrove Tuesday. Accordingly, over in Derby, they's playing a game of football across a three-mile stretch of field, from 2pm to 10pm. Seriously, how else would you mark such an occasion? Points are scored by tapping the ball three times against a poll. No manslaughter or other unnecessary violence allowed. Obligatory Wikipedia Overview.

- Cat And Girl is one of my new favorite webcomics :) Man, I love webcomics. Here and here and here are some good episodes!
