know a guy who knows a guy...

My paid LJ account expired a week or two ago.

I just looked at somebody's "plus" journal -- so, the first ads I've seen on LJ.

Not sure I want to give them any money now.

(Psst! LJ employees! There's this guy [livejournal.com profile] brad I could point you to -- he might be able to get you the hookup with some tasteful text ads! ... )

This offends me. I can't afford a Paid account. But I like having icons, so my journal has ads on it. Fuck off.

I'm offended by bad online ads!

(but! notably, not offended by unobtrusive tasteful online ads)

You have a paid account now.

Yeah. I declined to renew my paid account (after five years with a paid account) after all the shenanigans and poor decision-making from the various companies that have owned LiveJournal in the past two years. When it was just run by some cool dude named Brad, I was happy to send Brad some money in exchange for using his site. Now that it's owned by people who are explicitly in it for money, I'm far less inclined to fork it over.
