ready to jump in!

I think I'm over my spell of being bummed out. I was fairly discombobulated, moving here and then suddenly having a lot of downtime in an unfamiliar area. But now all the administrivia (utilities, insurance, going to the local DMV, etc) is handled, at least. There were some bursts of productivity, but also a lot of staring off into space.

We've been pretty social, though :) My mother was in town this past weekend, and we had a housewarming party, and she chatted everybody up, including local organic food activists (Maggie and Will) and eminent computer scientists (Lindsey's effective advisor Dan). And there was canoeing on Lake Monroe.

Tonight we went over to our friend Larisse's place (Chez Larisse; she's a native French speaker) and tried our hands at playing poker -- Lindsey ended up winning! I found another game that I don't find terribly compelling, but it was cool to hang out with friends.

So. Monday morning, and we're getting oriented. And then I'm learning, how you say, All of Statistics and All of Natural Language Processing. Still no official word on what I'll be helping teach, but it's likely Intro to AI (for grad students), or possibly CS 1 (for undergrads). I would be quite alright with either.

Here we go!

Now if you could just find a park where people were unicycling or juggling or doing tai chi or acrobatics/dancing/drumming. If none exists, perhaps, once your other routines are more established, you could find others so inclined, and create such a place. I have this notion that you would feel more at home in such an environment.

orientation!

Hoping that all went well today with orientation. And that you are feeling like a Hoosier now. I am so proud of you. Can't wait to hear all about it. I hope that you chatted everybody up. Your mother loves you so much. Oh, and who has a birthday next week? Oh yes, it's you!
