These are a few of my favourite things...

Really Cool Things for the day include:

- Veggie Salami. I used to really enjoy salami, back when I was eating meat... and this "Yves Veggie Salami" (look for it in your grocer's meatless meat section!) does a really good job of capturing what's cool about salami ... with the goodness of Soy(tm)! Fat free, cholesterol free, soy protein, contains no random bovine or porcine organs... oh yeah :)

- RPC. Ken Mackenzie, who remains one of the funkiest individuals on the planet, was discussing this idea today. It's darn skippy -- instead of having a protocol going over a network have to send data as text (and then have the other end have to parse out the text), why not have a layer of abstraction where you can pretend like you're just making a procedure call on the sender machine and have the software figure it out? I haven't actually written anything that uses this yet, and RPC services (NFS and whatnot) are generally considered a big security issue... but the idea's so beautiful... maybe finals week, or once school's out, I'll play with this.

The more I learn about computing, the more my idea of "computer" breaks down... it really stops being about a computer, and starts being really abstract...

CS: It's not a Science, and it's not really about Computers!
