NaRoRuMo 10: The In Tallahassee Again Edition (maybe he'll stay in town for a weekend someday)

Man, I've been in Florida a lot recently. NaRoRuMo doesn't stop for that, as we well know.

Last night: Three of these -- little mile-long loops around dad's neighborhood, plus running to that loop from his house. So roughly a 5K.

Now I have to decide whether I want to run here, then drive, or drive then run in Atlanta. Mm, excitement.

Tonight was rather less ambitious: fairly peppy recovery run, around the Park-Enclosing-Block, except in the other direction. 3.6 miles.

I'm pretty surprised I'm not sore from yesterday! The first time I went out to the mall, I think, was summer 2005... I'd just read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, and I was thinking about how he described hiking up a tall mountain, each step is like a little (Buddhist-flavored) devotional, you're just right there, in the moment, doing nothing except hiking. Step. Step. Step.

I was totally wrecked the next day, heh :)

In further running news: Mom and I are planning on roughing up the Tallahassee Turkey Trot. I'm thinking the 15K version sounds pretty good.

I'd been pretty gentle for the past few days...

Tonight: The Traditional out-to-Lenox-Mall Run, making sure to scruffle behind the ears of the bizarre dude-with-head-of-deer statue on the way back, y'know, where Peachtree and Roswell split. Just shy of 14 miles.

Graham [livejournal.com profile] cola_fan! They finished the sidewalk out there by the mall. It looks nice :)

Powered by Joy Division on the way out for a spring in my step, powered by WREKAGE on the way back in... for BRUTAL.

NaRoRuMo 07

Tonight: Sort of an odd running expedition, but about four miles. From the house out to the far side of Tech campus, with a stop to see the Flock, this wild musical piece put together by Jason Freeman, with help from Martin [livejournal.com profile] samarin (this had to do with your masters project, yes?), including generous post-graduation helpings-out!

Flock is a piece for "saxophone quartet, dancers, electronic sound, video, and audience participation". The saxophone players were wearing these wonderful black baseball caps, each with a glowing ball on top, of a different color. And they were wandering around the room, and the motion-tracking cameras in the ceiling translated this into different music, which was sent wirelessly to the little PDAs strapped to their music stands. Then the audience got up and started walking around in the performance space, and Martin handed us little cards with instructions on how to clump into groups and rules for splitting and joining and moving the groups -- it felt sort of Game-of-Life-y, but certainly a very informal formal system, in that it involved people largely freely walking around.

And there was a display showing what the blob-tracking software was seeing, and fairly intuitively clear how this was changing the music (the audience was the percussive bits in the music, I think). Hooray Martin. Oh. And I guess hooray Jason too.

... and then I ran home.

Tonight: I was out running in the Highlands (4.3 miles), but Lindsey [livejournal.com profile] rockstarling is rather cooler, and ran to Central Park (6.8)! NaRoRuMo doesn't stop for traveling to Manhattan, apparently!

In other running news -- the mighty Graham [livejournal.com profile] cola_fan is up on it in Barcelona. ¡Olé, Mr. Maratón!

(gross aside: it's like my body refuses to stop producing snot... I feel totally over last month's Sick. Just leaking a lot of phlegm. Nobody understands.)

NaRoRuMo 05: you're getting 25 more of these on your friends page, just to warn you.

Tonight: seven and one-fifth, out to campus, one "campus loop, longway", as Martin [livejournal.com profile] samarin and I used to call it, then back around the Big Block That Encloses The Park.

I'm feelin' it. February is going to be pretty awesome.

(also? I feel very awake, when I'm awake...)

Tonight: just a quick loop around the Monroe-Piedmont-10th block that contains the park. 3.6 miles.

But I took it pretty quickly! Feeling frisky. I'll go longer tomorrow morning...

Remember to stretch!

I'm in lovely St. Petersburg, Florida (right next to Tampa) visiting the grandparents. This did not stop NaRoRuMo!

Tonight: 40 minutes around my cousin Matt's neighborhood. It's so pretty around here -- we're right on the coast, and the city is interspersed with canals, so wherever you go, it's right on the water and super-flat... and it's not cold (ever). You could run forever here...

This morning! About seven miles.

Through the Highlands, out to Little 5 and further down Moreland, into Reynolds- and Cabbage-Towns. And then back home.

National Road Running Month. It's official! Lindsey [livejournal.com profile] rockstarling, me, and apparently Nina from Sales... and you too, if you want! Run every day, for November. No days off!

I'm running in the mornings. I've never been a morning person (more of a sleep-'til-the-last-possible-instant person, typically), but for the past few days, I've had my curtains open, giving the alarm clock that sunshine-assist. It feels pretty good.

Today: a little over 5 miles, out to Candler Park, near where Brett [livejournal.com profile] zip4096 lives. The Freedom Park path is so beautiful. There's some stenciled Bad Poetry on it in a few places.
