spring break -- part deux!
Mar. 17th, 2003 01:56 amAlrighty... I'm back once again, returned to Atlanta after a really impulsive trip to Tallahassee, almost like Spring Break part II. Corey and Marty and myself ended up hopping in the car on Friday evening, dropping Tim (
neuroticmonk) off in Columbus. The idea actually started out with him, in that he wanted to go and visit Shannon (
ayajulia) and this required the use of the Geekmobile...
So anyway, after some fiddling, Marty and Corey were convinced that this was a good idea, and we were off. Traveling was interesting -- it was raining pretty hard almost the entire way, and it was dark and hard to see, and there's no really good way to get there, and... *laughs* Complain! So we got there, eventually :)
So over the weekend, we hung out with Brett (
zip4096), we played a lot of Bushido Blade II, we ate a whole lot, we went to get comics and anime, at the Cosmic Cat (probably Tallahassee's oldest and most Tallahassee-like comic shop), we started in on making a silly Linux kernel module that beeps when you press the 'j' key, we learned about cable modems, we watched a lot of anime (Samurai X, which is really beautiful and super-well-done, and Blue Gender, which features Really Bad Animation, Giant Insects, and a semi-interesting storyline...), slept, hung around at the lake with my paternal unit, played with cats and dogs... and then drove back tonight, picking up Tiznim on the way.
It was a good weekend :) Sort of insubstantial and floaty...
I spoke with Esther (
eponis) tonight, and that was also sort of ... disconnected... I think she was sleepy. She's back from her trip, though, safe... this is good.
For part of the trip, we had Green Day on -- remember the album "Dookie"? That was about the biggest thing that ever happened, or at least for my sixth-grade self, it was. I'm wondering if I liked it, then, because it was just the Thing To Like, or if it made sense... it probably didn't, really. Most of the songs from this album have to do with directionlessness, with that awkward pause when you don't really feel like an adult, but it's been a long time since you could be a child.
I had good taste as a little kid :) I'm still pretty well convinced that those Wolverine comics from 1992 and 1993 (done by Larry Hama and Mark Texiera) are up there on the list of coolest comics I've seen...
... it might be about time to pass out. Yah.
