Hello again, everyone :)

Lessee here... I think I had a few things I'd wanted to write about. Yes...

Just like every other obsessed fanboy and fangirl, I went to see Reloaded last night. Show of hands -- who saw it opening night? I always find it interesting, the tendency that people have to want to see movies with their friends -- why does this matter at all? We got a big posse of friends together (Brett, Lloydus, Alan, Garrett, Bob/Derek, and Cameron) and then proceeded to sit in a row in a big dark theater and not say a whole lot to each other (aside from "hey, good to see you!"). Eh, I suppose Brett and Alan hadn't seen each other in a while, and they chatted, so that was good...

Reloaded spoilers? )

Quite a film :) I think I was able to enjoy it more than, say, X-Men 2 (bringing this up just because we're on the topic of huge-production geek action movies) because it's a completely new story to me... I think a lot of my nonplussed-ness about X2 had to do with my expectations of how the X-folks tend to do their things and the mangling of the timeline from the comics. That, and while Hugh Jackman makes a pretty good Wolverine while he's standing around and being in character or talking to people, as soon as he starts moving... at least for me, it sort of falls apart. He's just not ... animal enough, or even samurai enough, or special-forces enough, whereas my internal model of Wolverine (from reading about a billion comic books, in my misspent youth, which continues to this very day) has him being sort of a mix of all of these, mostly depending on his mood. He's supposed to be generally more graceful... eh. On the other end of things fighting choreography from Reloaded did not suffer at all. It was beautiful, and because Keanu Reeves Is Neo, he moves just like Neo, without 40 years of comic books hanging around to give people a different interpretation of how shiny Morpheus's head is supposed to be. Really, every huge-budget geeky action film needs a wise, older bald guy. Gandalf is going to have to shave his head this December...

That, and Reloaded was just trying to push a whole lot more bits around... there are interesting references and points made and ideas brought up in X2, but Reloaded is ... much heavier, idea-wise. *shrugs*

Blah, I'm a fanboy.

cut to a dream sequence... )

Today, I picked up a KVM switch (compusa, about $50, which was rather less than a bunch of other KVMs I'd seen) and grabbed an old computer (formerly known as treebeard, but it might get rechristened tonight) from Dad's house... and this is going to be my equipment for hacking on stuff for the Linux Kernel Class. I'm downloading redhat 9 (yeah, I know :-\ ... better than win98, which was what was on that box after Mary got done with it... it's what the class is Officially Using) and that's going to get installed as soon as I can get it pulled off the wire and burnt to discs...

Hrum... and my weight training class, I think I'm going to really enjoy :) FSU's gym is excellent, and I think I'm in the right mindset right now for getting strong... I'm already all hyped up about going back to Tech in the Fall... there's a lot of summer left 'tween now and then, though :)
