If you happen to be in Eastern Europe (Slovakia particularly) next month, and you've got a hankering for b33r and geek companionship, there's always the LinuxBierWanderung/Linux Beer Hike. The mind reels. Thank you, /.

Last night, I was at the gym, and I ran into Lynnsey, whom I hadn't seen for a while -- she was busy looking slightly older than she was last I saw her (over a year ago, at least) and pedaling a stationary bike. We talked about stuff for a while, but then I opted to get some lifting done, and ended up running into Garrett. We talked about workout schedules and protein supplements (he suggests whey from Protein Factory, among other things) and then offered to work out with me, which was great, because he really knows what he's doing. He's been really enthusiastic about this, actually -- he knows a lot, and he seems excited to be able to share the knowledge with a friend. So he demonstrated the proper technique for a deadlift (which I didn't know, so I hadn't been doing deadlifts) and then introduced me to an entirely new world of tricep pain by doing almost a whole hour of triceps with me... it's interesting, moving my arms today. I had no idea at all that you could spend a whole hour doing just triceps...

Yesterday in the afternoon, I got Penguin Warrior working (I'd been fiddling with the sound-loading code, mostly), so I suppose today I'll package that up nicely so that everybody can enjoy Reeves' game... that, and Programming Linux Games is excellent, if slightly out of date in its treatment of libsndfile.

Hrum... and in a bit, I think I'm headed out into the forest and then going to go fix up computers at the paternal unit's office...

"The first use of the new extended attribute subsystem is to implement POSIX access control lists. POSIX access control is a superset of standard UNIX permissions that allows for more fine-grained control."
-- Wonderful World of Linux 2.6, linked from kerneltrap.org

Oh my goodness. POSIX ACLs in Linux... Tim ([livejournal.com profile] neuroticmonk) will be happy.

*laughs* This reminds me of not too many months ago, back in the LUG, when somebody made a joke about a user at an installfest wanting to set up Gentoo for an ARM processor... now half the LUG, if not using ARMs, does Gentoo. And maybe a year ago, we chuckled when Josh L. was talking about how he /really needed/ POSIX ACLs... he chuckled along, too. Something like "I'm the only person outside the DoD that actually wants this, but..." ... so he would always go and find these exotic patches to make his Linux kernel do that. I watched him building a kernel, once... he'd apply some obscene number of patches before he would actually get to the compiling...

Yeah, but now it's going to be in the mainstream kernel. How times change.

The Rudnick is switching into Social Sciences Researcher Mode again. Mostly because he's been reading Marty's copy of Sex/Machine, which is this big collection of cultural studies essays about gender/technology interactions...

Not that you guys are any sort of representative sample, but... could you comment up some responses? I'm curious:

- Does your computer have a name?
- Do you tend to anthropomorphize your computer?
- Do you normally name and/or anthropomorphize your things?
