fridge fixage
Oct. 6th, 2003 11:35 amSo our fridge was busted. And we put in a maintenance request to get it fixed. At about 9:30 or thereabouts, the maintenance guys showed up...
And it turns out that the fridge-fixing expert is a master electrician (and had been for 25 years) from Sarajevo, who fled from Bosnia as a refugee just recently. He's a shortish, roundish guy with deep lines in his face, a loud, proud voice and almost stereotypical Eastern European accent and odd constructions ("my friend" he uses pretty much in place of "you")... he's super cool. We've been talking about politics (he'd asserted that Communism, Socialism, and Capitalism are all broken, that he wants a system that finds the clever people and makes sure they get into good schools, and that Germany is the coolest/best/strongest country in Europe) and languages (he speaks about n Eastern European languages, plus German and Italian and English) and sports (he likes swimming and soccer) and going places and colleges...
... and he very confidently fixed our fridge and cleaned up all the melted crud from his efforts, and now he's off to get a coupla replacement parts. What an interesting human being...
The other maintenance guy was from around here, and he was asking questions about computers and how to fix them... and he accepted our offer of Coffee.
People are really interesting.
