flipping over the calendar...
Jan. 2nd, 2004 02:20 amSo last night, after finding out Where The Party Was At, Lloydus and I headed out to Blake's grandmother's house for the festivities. We showed up a bit early, and were greeted by Blake and Ben (he's married to somebody related to Blake, just a bit older, extra-country, loud-ish, and personable). The evening was spent outside: we played with these really lovely big slobbery black labs who would go and find sticks and pinecones and expect you to play fetch, we hung out around a bonfire, and we chatted and listened to Blake and Brooks play songs (apparently all original, with the exception of "Beer is my hiding place from the women"), and Kthaw and Joanna and Jeremy and Garrett were also there. Blake introduced me to the magic of power chords and people talked about the process of learning and creating things (particularly with respect to songwriting, which is what Blake's been working on) and people we know and alcohol and all sorts of interesting things. Altogether entertaining :)
At around 0200 hours, we headed back to Lloyd's house to make some vegan pancakes and chat... and this lasted for some hours. We discussed how Bisquick Makes Everything Better and the whole "so where do value systems come from" and the existence-of-a-conscious-author-of-the-universe problem that tends to come up when we get together.
I slept really late today, but once I got up, I started being productive. I went for a walk, I ran around in the forest, I've cleaned the room, and I've thought about how I really do, in fact, need to ... (those who've known me for a while won't be terribly surprised, just disgusted) ... translate San Manuel Bueno, Mártir into English for my non-hispanohablante friends!
And Marty
samarin is showing up tomorrow, and that'll be cool, and we'll hang out and do neat Tallahassee things and then drive back to Tech.
Hrm. Resolutions for 2004?
- race a half-marathon after getting in appropriate shape to do so
- really translate SMBM this time. I've got the Spanish minor finished up... no excuse!
- do kung fu.
- drink less coffee and eat more oatmeal
- Other things... erm... I'll think of some.
... and that... as they say, was that.
