We (Lloyd and Garrett
lomonthang and I
oniugnip) had been kicking around the idea of heading to the beach, so that was what we did today :)
This entailed getting up fairly early (and sadly Brett didn't come with us, likely for that reason, but we somehow managed to have a good time anyway), but we headed out to St. George Island, which is some indeterminate but fairly small distance away from Tallahassee, and hung out at the state park beach, which is generally lovely, although much warmer in May than it was when Marty
samarin came to, over Christmas break, visit us.
So we loitered around on the beach, threw disc, swam, dug tunnels in the sand and burried Lloyd up to his neck, and generally had a good time. On the way back, we opted to eat at the endlessly lovely Julia Mae's, which is always... uh... a cultural adventure, if not the most vegan-friendly place in the world. The waitress was thoroughly confused, to the point where she had to ask whether olives were an "animal product"...
At some point during the day, we got the idea that we'd call up our associate Holly, from highschool, whom we hadn't seen for many years. This was primarily an interesting idea for its total unexpectedness -- we were never particularly close to her in the first place. In terms of Teen Girl Squad, I had been something like a male analogue of Whats Her Face (although verging on So-and-So), whereas Holly would map more strongly to Cheerleader. So we thought that it would at least be interesting to give her a call.
So we did, and through bizarre hapenstance, we managed to not only get in contact with her (through calling her parents' house) but also randomly run into our associate Derick, who just happened to be handy. Because Black Dog was closed by the time she showed up, we ended up at another coffee bar right across the street, and then walked around the lake and talked about stuff for a few hours. It went really well, actually. Probably the longest, most interesting conversation I'd had with her... terribly interesting person. People are fascinating. Particularly the intelligent people, of which she's definitely one...
And tomorrow, there's a lot of stuff to be done. But that'll all get done, and then I'll be back up to Tech, and that'll be lovely. I'ma sign up for cs4210 (the Other OS Class), I think... because, you know, why not? And who wouldn't feel like a better person for having written a webserver and doing proxies and making all sorts of arcane system calls?
Feel free not to answer that last question :)
