"But what about the stock market?"
Jun. 25th, 2004 03:00 am- I've got this particular behaviour, I've noticed: when something medium-significant and thinking-intensive needs to get done, say a Theory homework, I tend to do it all in one stretch after other people have gone to bed, usually the night before, having taken a nap in the afternoon. I used this tactic when I was taking Combinatorics as well, and I think my best coding gets done like that...
- So obviously, I did this last night, subjecting the world to an overly mellow, gently spaced-out Alex for the morning, and an unconscious, napping Alex for the early evening, and a wakeful, coding Alex after midnight.
- After Theory today, I ate lunch with Paul and Gretchen -- we headed over to Moe's, which is always wonderful. Gretchen's really cool -- she's a (short-ish, cute mostly in a chibi sense) discrete math major, teaching herself Japanese, and she works as a lifeguard at the CRC, and has a taste for Gentoo... and Paul is Paul in all of his Paul-ness.
- Outside of that, I've been working on stuff -- we should have an approximation of a working proxy server (for the cs4210 project) tonight, which is happy :) And I'm almost set for doing happy searches with Lucene for the research project...
- I've been playing with this site OK Cupid, which is really quite nice -- friendly interface, clearly made by cool people (mathfolk from Harvard, apparently), lots of users, clever ML-esque matching algorithms, and a server written from the ground up in C++. Bizarrely, there have already been people named "oniugnip" and "pinguino"... so I'm anagrammed out to be "ugniponi" over there.
- My phone has stopped working, which is nice, because nobody can call me, but it's less than useful, because nobody can call me. If you're wondering why phone communications with me haven't been working, this is why. Perhaps I should look into getting this rectified...
