- So, visually, nothing actually has an appearance that's "more real" than any other appearance that you might happen to perceive. Because you can't just go and perceive an object in the raw; you have to see it under some set of conditions (lighting, mental state, velocity, other objects around you, etc). And just because there's a set of conditions under which you normally go around seeing things (like, with some normal amount of sunlight, or inside with the lights turned on), that doesn't mean that what you're used to perceiving is how something Really Looks... if the lights were brighter, the thing would look different. Also, you're normally moving at some very small velocity relative to the object you're looking at...

- I don't know why I couldn't sleep. I do know that last night, I was up working on search engine stuff for research, and that was why I didn't sleep from Friday to Saturday... but I don't know why I'm not passed out right now. I have this vague concern that while it's at least... interesting... what we're doing with the context-aware searching stuff... that we don't have near enough stuff to search over, and that we don't have enough data to really establish a context, and that we're being horribly naïve about it either way.
- I should read a book or do some more work or something.
- Sometimes, some people frighten me. But not the people I know personally -- mostly. It's almost always the abstract "other people"... this could mean one of at least two things: (one) I tend to choose to be around people who don't scare me, or (b) getting to know people makes them closer to understood, and thereby less frightening.
