buenas tardes desde la Florida!
Mar. 20th, 2005 03:34 pmYesterday, I was tired and a bit irritable... I did that whole "I've been in school and dealing with life and now it's time to collapse" thing. But in the midst of all of that, I had a lovely lunch at Green Sprout with the Richard
falun and drove to Florida :)
So now I'm home, and it's warm and sunshiney, and I'm going to go run in the woods in a minute. Life is so interesting; we're more or less like the couple in that skit from Meaning of Life, getting the Conversation Cards about philosophers and concluding that all philosophers (such as Nietzsche and Schopenhauer) must have an 's' in their names, and then talking about Burt Bacharach. "Have you ever wondered... why we're all here? Like, on this planet?" "Well... nope!"
You just can't think about things that aren't on your list of things to think about. Without familiarity, everything's a nonissue.
This is why we need massive educational system changes in the country. But we need, circularly, enormous cultural changes to push that (which would in turn require educational reform). Assuming that we value having an aware populace, which we may or may not.
But first things first: running in the woods.
