first day of classes is a tuesday.
Jan. 10th, 2006 05:03 pm- Classes are going to be pretty awesome this semester, due in part to there only being two of them... the pretentiously-named apie looks like it's going to be awesome because it's like five students (many of whom have very stylish haircuts and HCI backgrounds) sitting in a room talking to Charles and Jeff Pierce, who I think would have made me like HCI a lot better had I taken the class from him; he's really likeable. And we're going to do something as a class project with maybe language-understanding or maybe something with clever playlist selection for music... and I think I'm the only student in there with a machine-learning background at all? We'll see...
- The Other Class looks like it'll be fun as well :) Lucja is pretty likeable as well, and I like her classroom manner... she just sort of talks about stuff without looking at her notes too much, and miraculously stays on topic. She's got these awesome "I'm a native German speaker" vowel sounds, often drops articles in a charming "not from around here" way, and seems to be intimately familiar with What's Up in a fairly nonthreatening way (I think it's easier to be threatening than nonthreatening, when one's a professor Who Knows What's Up). And Mel
agonistes, even though this is the automation-of-language-processing class, I think you'd appreciate her implicit stance on Text as an abstract thing...
