HFS! ASL FTW!
Nov. 9th, 2006 09:53 pmGood news on the "continued employment and stuff to do for
oniugnip" front: Mark likes how Timmy and I are workin' it for software development, so I've got a job for next semester. And Thad is on board for me doing my masters project with him, which he suggested... could possibly involve the typo correction stuff I'm already working on, or alternatively beautiful sign-language processing with Helene, who's one of the cooler people ever -- she's all-up-ons the machine-learning, and handling ASL is roughly the wildest and hardest problem. Its pronouns are spatial locations. And part of the grammar is facial expressions. And ASL speakers routinely break into mime and fairly direct-representations of what they're expressing, and it's all pretty tightly integrated. It's pretty easy for people to understand! But ... computers? *head asplode*
Possibilities are rife :) But I'm graduating soon and probably going away...
But first! I'ma go skate in the park for a little bit and then go to Laura
laurapatt's concert.
