- Richard [livejournal.com profile] reality_calls is apparently going to be in town tomorrow, O Atlanta-ites. We should hang out with him :) That's an anti-horrible thing!

- He alerts us to the bizarre condition anosognosia, though, which sometimes happens in people who've had strokes; it's when a person denies or seems unable to process some other condition, such as paralysis of some body part, or denies that the affected body parts are theirs... often while seeming otherwise mentally fine. Richard relates stories he'd read of patients being asked to move a paralyzed limb and claiming that they'd already done it, or that they didn't feel like it... or that it wasn't their limb! Seemingly related is Unilateral Neglect, wherein a patient totally ignores the left side of the world.

- Also, there's apparently a rare prion infection that some people have (maybe congenitally?)... that causes you to Die From Not Ever Sleeping OMG. News story about it here.

- Other bizarre things: Olaf Blanke and his crew have been looking into the neurological causes of feeling that somebody is nearby (they can generate non-there "shadow people" with electrical stimuli, which is creepy-and-a-half for the participant) and out-of-body experiences. (papers here)
