So NIN's latest album, Ghosts I-IV is released under a Creative Commons license and distributed over the web! The first nine tracks, you can grab right there from the site, and the whole thing, you can download for $5. (also, you can buy the Superdeluxe Physical Versions, though the most-deluxe version may be sold out?)

I gave Trent the $5 and downloaded it. The album comes in a big .zip with some pleasant artwork and all 36 tracks nicely labeled. You can get it in lossless, too. Trent! So much correctness! So much good will! (he's been doing all sorts of future-friendly things in the past few years -- releasing some tracks pre-cut-up for easy remixing, an Alternate Reality Game, speaking out about sharing files...)

Oh, and the music on Ghosts I-IV is pretty alright too. It's kind of ambient, with industrial grinding noises, chiptunes-y in places. Sounds like NIN, but all instrumental and fairly mellow.

Also: Saul Williams did something very similar last year. It's not clear if this one is released with a remix-friendly license too -- but it is a collaboration with Trent Reznor. Saul Williams is kind of super-awesome. I should go snag his latest one too...

I didn't grab the Radiohead album yet. That's supposed to be quite good, though, yes?
