weekend things from Valdosta
Jun. 29th, 2008 07:35 pmIn Valdosta, there's a playground with a jungle gym that has musical instruments built into the side. There are multicolored bells that you can tap on, tuned to a nice chord, and some big plastic drums that make satisfying thumps, and little clicky things. This morning, we took a while to improvise some music. Martin played the bells, Lauryn took the clicky things, I thumped the drums, and Andrew tapped the metal poles and the rubbery side of the structure. This went on for a minute or two, and it was pretty satisfying.
Yesterday, we came up with a BUSINESS PLAN: a shipping service that attaches packages and messages to passing cars and pedestrians without their knowledge, then clandestinely retrieves them when they arrive in the intended area. While there might be a high rate of losing things, and planning routes would be hard, think of what we'd save in fuel costs. And just imagine somebody walking down the street totally unaware that they have the book you ordered stuck to their back with packing tape.
Also: Andrew totally hand-bound copies of his thesis for us. They look fantastic. One poem begins: "Around him, an arc of typewriters. Spares." ... truly, he is a Master of Fine Arts.
