Some topics are difficult to bring up.
One of them is martial arts. You can hardly broach the subject without putting yourself dangerously close to mall ninja territory; you know the type.
That said! I mentioned earlier that I'd signed up for a kung fu class and promptly threw out my back. But I really like the school -- so I've switched over to the Tai Chi program, and it's wonderful. Lindsey
lindseykuper also took part, while she was here! There wasn't a lot of flipping out and stabbing, but it's a really good workout. The warmup exercises alone are really difficult.
It's the same group that ran the kung fu club at Tech, where Tim
neuroticmonk and I practiced, years ago, but the students have the amazing calm and grace that comes with not being angsty 21-year-old Tech students. Sifu Anne is great, really patient. Also, I expect she could tear people apart (very slowly), without even resorting to Maudlin Egret Style.
So: hooray!
