the race report!
Nov. 29th, 2008 09:11 pmAtlanta Marathon results: ALEX RUDNICK (chip time: 4:06:21).
The race, it went really well. That morning, Lindsey
lindseykuper and I rolled out to the starting line and met up with my mom and her entourage -- it was really sweet of everybody to come out and see me off. It was unseasonably warm for late November, and clear: perfect day for racing.
( My plan was to break four hours... )
Mile markers 23 and 24 somehow seemed very far apart. Ouch. By that point, I was slowing down significantly, and I was pretty sure I couldn't hit four hours, but I wanted to give it a good shot. I took a few short (and unplanned, not good) walk breaks as I made my way through Midtown and downtown, and by the end of the race, I was hurting pretty badly. Those last two miles have some rough hills! But I made it -- and Lindsey and my family were there, so hooray :)
4:06:21 was a PR by 12 minutes, and on the whole my racing was relatively graceful, so I'll count that as a win.
Then I ate all the post-race food and hobbled to the car. And we ate and ate and ate -- Thanksgiving food was constructed in large part by Maya
leadsynth, who can cook like a mad villain! So much delicious. Great Thanksgiving, woo :)
(next race: Tallahassee Marathon? "This course is virtually flat...")
