Lenovo laptops without Windows: no go!

Just called up the Lenovo sales line, and I spoke with a friendly guy named Lawrence who went and checked whether you can buy a Lenovo laptop that doesn't come with Windows. Apparently they don't do that. "Probably some licensing thing with Microsoft," he mused. Then, helpfully, "But I do know they work with Linux..."

I could go through the get-a-refund-from-Microsoft rigmarole?
Also: you know who will sell you a laptop, even with Linux pre-installed? Dell.
