climbing!!
Mar. 26th, 2011 09:59 pmHave I mentioned that we've been climbing?
Lindsey's not here right now, but on the weekends, we've been heading out to the climbing gym with our friend Will, whose superpowers include getting people pumped up to do interesting things.
Climbing is really hard. It's physically demanding, but in a way that's not at all like running, and I think not even much like lifting weights. Until I run kind of a long way, my legs don't particularly hurt, but I might be out of breath. With climbing, the first thing that goes out is my forearms, and this causes falling off of a wall. And being caught with a super-safe safety harness and a friend on the other end of the rope, of course. I guess this means I should work on grip strength, or at least grip endurance...
We went this afternoon, with the addition of Jamie, who's a pretty hip dude. I think I'm getting better: I was able to flash ("get to the top in one go, without resting or falling") this route wherein I had to haul myself up over the top of an overhang, and it involved hanging on to some holds with my hands while pushing against the wall with my feet ("lean-back; smearing"). So much fun.
(Lindsey's written about our climbing adventures before, if you're interested.)
