Well. I've got some questions for me.

IF YOU WANT YOUR OWN QUESTIONS:
Comment with "Come at me, bro," and:
- I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.
- Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
- Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.

Here are the questions I got from [livejournal.com profile] agonistes!

1. You are in California! What is the best part non-Lindsey, non-work about being there?

Probably that a bunch of our friends are here! We've had several occasions to hang out with Martin and Lauryn and Mark, and some of our Indiana friends are here too.

Mountain View is also pretty nice. There's a lot of good food, and the Stevens Creek Trail is great for running and biking. Although arguably this is a work-thing, because that's my commute.

2. If you had to be part of the strike team that took down the evil overlord, and you could not be the one-liner hacker guy (despite being very good at both the one-liners and the hacks), what would be your role?

My action-hero dream-self is a ninja, it turns out. Windy night, under the moon, up the wall, in the window, hide in the shadows. Surprise in the dark. *thud*

3. What is the most badass thing you have done in the last month? (What is the most badass thing Mylk and Andre have done in the last month?)

I've now got some code in Translate, and I've been hanging out with a bunch of NLP Heroes! Working on this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Word-sense_disambiguation (only for whole phrases, but it's the same)

Mylk and Andre have been so badass that they're hanging out in Indiana with our friends Kiran and Sajith [livejournal.com profile] sajith! (photos courtesy of Sajith)

4. What are your opinions on Foxman?

Pffft :)

But moreover: I can't tell whether Foxman is ridiculous performance art or just an over-excitable guy who can't carry a tune, but that doesn't matter because it is now the future and anybody in the developed world can produce music and distribute it with etsy or bandcamp or youtube or ... so in the long run both of those things will happen over and over again. But also really good art will happen!

5. What's the last fiction you read, and what are your thoughts on it?

Oh geez. It's kind of embarrassing how little long-form fiction I read. I've got a pile of books on things-related-to-work (language, meaning/cognition, programming...), so that tends to be my bedtime reading.

Not too long ago, I read the Machine of Death anthology, and I enjoyed it a lot. Many of the stories came with a definite visceral sense of dread. I liked it so much that I, uh, encouraged my students to make automatic cut-up poetry with it, although most of them ended up using other texts from Project Gutenberg because they hadn't heard of Machine of Death.

(interpreting "fiction" more broadly, I take in a steady stream of webcomics...)
