people are rad
Jan. 11th, 2013 01:03 amMy colleague Can [0] was telling me about this chatbot that's been let loose on Renren recently. It responds super fast when you mention its name, often with eerily good answers to your questions.
We were looking at how it works -- she found the code for the bot on github. So we're going through the code, and the comments are all in Chinese. "Do you understand any Chinese?", she asks. And I said I didn't.
"That's OK, I can teach you! That right there..." She points to a comment. "That means 'match the regular expression'."
[0] Her 'C' is pronounced like the 'ts' in "tsunami" -- Pinyin Romanization!
Also! Mike and I are building a new website where people can discuss how to translate stuff into GuaranĂ, and we're trying to get a virtual machine from the school, so we can host our server. And the sysadmin we've been discussing this with, it turns out that he loves the movie The Mission (which is pretty excellent), so he knew all about the GuaranĂ language and Paraguay, etc! He was telling us about how now he's probably going to have to watch it again this weekend, and how he loves the Ennio Morricone soundtrack...
People! People are pretty interesting.
