I don't play all that many video games.

But over the past few months, I've really gotten into Tekken. Particularly Tekken Tag Tournament 2 which I'm going to go ahead and say is the greatest installment in the series. So much fun. I've been playing this series for years (Tekken 3 with Mark Wang back in high school! Tekken 5 with Martin when we lived in Home Park!) -- but it really grows with you. There are so many different possible strategies, schools of thought on offense and defense, like 60 different characters with on the order of a hundred different moves each (some of which, including very important ones, are undocumented), techniques that are physically difficult to input, and a surprisingly rich storyline, as fighting games go...

This time around, though, I've been playing online a bunch. I'll do maybe a half hour at a time, every day or two. I even went and got a ridiculous joystick thing to up my game, because the serious players use quality input devices, uh, and sometimes I find myself reading the forums and watching matches from tournaments and commentary and tutorials online, and ... anyway, it's a lot of fun. One could spend arbitrary time and effort on this.

Lindsey doesn't seem to mind. She'll watch me play sometimes, releasing an audible sigh when I'm losing. (best case: she sighs loudly, then I turn the match around and win anyway! this doesn't always happen.)

Lots of people who play online have really great costumes for their characters. Matching outfits, or at least thematically linked ones, ridiculous hairstyles, etc. Matching is important because these are tag battles, and you get to pick two fighters. I had done a little bit of customization, but it was relatively boring. My Kazuya and Jun were both wearing hakama (those baggy Japanese Aikido-style pants) and an appropriate top to go with it, and my Kunimitsu had a sweater and a skirt, which I thought looked nice.

Yesterday, she asked if I would mind if she dressed up my characters! I didn't mind at all, of course; she spent some time sprucing up my characters, and made them bright green jackets with matching bright-green punk haircuts (Kazuya got a spiky mohawk!), and black leather pants and boots. It's super punk rock, or perhaps vaguely cyberpunk. It looks nice anyway.

"Appearance matters! You've got to make a good impression!" ... so now if you see @TeamKandR in online Tekken matches, we'll be looking good.

Thank you, Lindsey ♥
