new location, different food, feelings
Aug. 6th, 2014 10:34 pmLiving in Sunnyvale now, our routines are jumbled up a bit. We're finding new places to eat, new places to run and cycle, new places to hang out... and new places to get groceries.
I went to the Trader Joe's earlier this evening, and it nearly brought a tear to my eye. It's not that I'm that much of a fan (though it's very nice!) -- I was just in kind of a mood, thinking about being alive, and food and eating and living and dying, and how much it sucks to be hungry (my experience is so limited, but I hate being hungry even for a little bit -- I get extremely stupid and grumpy, very quickly)... and I'm in there and I'm looking at the ten different kinds of scones and pastries that I could just pick up, right there...
And I thought about how I looked absolutely normal, walking into that Trader Joe's; bearded 31-year-old white man in a Firefox t-shirt. Where does our gardener shop? (we have a gardener now; the landlady arranges this...)
But: I came out of there with a bunch of frozen burritos, sprouted whole-grain bread, and black licorice and it's going to be OK.
