I'm back in Tall-a-ma-hassee :)

The trip back was quite easy; the geekmobile was out of commission, so I hopped on the MARTA out to the airport.

On the plane, I was sitting in a section of three seats all to myself as the plane was gradually filling up, and this beautiful young woman comes up, chatting on her cellphone and putting off an aura that I interpret, elitist bastard that I am, as "I realize that most people think I'm gorgeous, but frankly you'd find me uninteresting". I wonder where she's going to sit, and -- odd how this normally doesn't happen -- her seat is right next to mine.

And I ended up having a really interesting flight, because the woman who came and sat down next was Janet Barber, world-renowned (?) sociologist from FAMU. And we talked about academia and research (she's involved with the pharmacy school at FAMU and gerentology work) -- she was coming back from Oregon (...?), presenting a paper about what happens to college professors from HBCU when they get old and retire... and she told me about her friend Dr. Sally Sedelow, and her husband Dr. Mr. Sedelow, and how back in the day they were doing... something with AI and doing text-crunching on Hamlet or something (and there are citations to this paper out there, but I haven't found the actual article yet)... and she knows The Hunters (you know, Henry and Rosie and Ellen from Maclay), and I told her to say "hi", so hopefully she will.

And now I'm back home, and everybody's around, and the car's fixed, and it's loffly :) So now... I'ma go sleep, then get up and do some work. Because I really need to finish (also: start) the Plotinus paper and the translation thing (already started).

Garrett! :)

I'm heading back up... probably on Saturday or maybe Sunday. I'd heard you won't be around 'til the 30th, though? ...

Just thought you'd like to know... my dad was hiking on the Appalachian Trail last weekend up near North Carolina and ran into someone on the trail that we saw last spring. He specifically remembered my dad because "he was hiking with that kid with the sports coat." Apparently Ryan has become a trail legend. He said he's told the story of the Kid With The Sports Coat about 15 times.

... aforementioned sportscoat-wearing kid should be in town; I'll see if he's around tonight :)
