- There are a billion things to do, omg. One of them, though... setting up Linux on the new server for the edutech lab. This is way more computer than we need for pushing a tiny little webapp -- it's got two dual-core 3.2 xeons and two gigs of ram! I suppose if I need to find a big prime number or sequence some proteins or aim a missile soon, I know which machine to use... guh, but I need to get going on that diagram editor thing for Ron :P

- Richard [livejournal.com profile] falun was gone for his recitation yesterday, so he had me come in as a guest TA! Teaching a class is one of the more fun things ever, and Richard's got such a cool group of kids... it's apparently a "let's think about interesting things" seminar deal for freshmen taking cs1322X, so I came in ready [includes code written during class] to either build a little production system or design, as a class, a web browser. In the face of "uh, we're not sure what we want to do as a class -- normally instructors just start in on something", I gravitated towards the AI-type thing instead of the software-engineering-type-thing, so after motivating the discussion with a little bit of formal logic, we took the rest of the class to build a production system (inferencing about everybody's favorite toy domain, animals in a zoo, yay!), and we almost got it done. It was really rewarding -- everybody seemed to get what was going on and probably even enjoyed it. There were only four students, but that's fine because apparently there are only seven signed up.

(Richard: if you're curious, the people there were: Nick, Eli, Amanda, and Ricky; I got Eli to write some code, and Ricky was especially helpful with design.)

- Now for more work!

You just described my work computer (well it only has one dual core 3.2 xeon but still). Sadly it still takes a long time to compile the application.

That's a whole lot of computer.

But does yours have redundant power supplies and a silly graphical configuration screen thing from Dell!?

Dude, tell us about stuff! How's life? How's work? You've been so silent!
