Today's been one of those glorious days where you feel up and active, just ready to go and Do Stuff. I had woken up a number of minutes before the alarm went off, but opted to stay in bed until my officially appointed Arising Time, just because I was enjoying being there.
So I got up, got ready (as had been earlier described), and headed off to Combo, where we talked about counting things with a recursive algorithm, which is a pretty well funky thing -- I was impressed, at least. Right after that, the professor launched into building Taylor serieses to count things, though, and I realized... that I'm going to have to go back and remind myself just how to use one of those, because I don't think I quite grabbed it conceptually the first time around. Eh. The recursive algorithm thing is really cool, if nothing else. I should finish that anagram program I was working on...
Recitation this afternoon went rather well, impressively... we managed to talk about everything on our List o' Things, and the students seemed to be a good bit more involved this time, which is a Very Good Thing. We managed to get one guy to (very nearly) write a void-pointer-swap function on the board, successfully (I think) communicated the idea of the different storage classes in C and where they live in memory, got across the idea of a makefile and just why you want one... and I gave Bobby (a fellow LUG-ite) a little plastic tub of jelly from Cybercafe when he successfully wrote a macro up on the board, which I think was considered a rather odd action on several parts. Ah well.
Not too long after the recitation (a great source of joy), I found myself experiencing all sorts of pleasant events... that related ... to the Parking Department. This is really strange. Really strange indeed, actually. The Parking Gestapo is not normally nearly as nice, but as I was coming back from classes, I realized that I'd left my car in the parking lot outside the dorm as opposed to the one where I was supposed to park it, which is on the Other Side of the Universe (P01, over by the basketball arena), and for some reason, there wasn't a ticket there... so put it back, skated over to West again, and then got the email notifying me that my number had come up on the waiting list to get a closer spot. So I hopped over, collected the car again, found a meter with 8 minutes left on it at the Parking office, got my new permit without a hitch, and then spent some double-digit number of minutes trying to find out just where the R06 lot is -- it's the Curran parking deck, apparently, about a minute's walk away from my chateau :) Yay.
So not long after that, I went out with Running Wreck, and Russell took us to MLK's tomb, which is surrounded by this nice cascading fountain-pool thing, which had about a half-inch of ice over the top. From there, we went towards Centenniel Olympic Park, then back towards Tech... up until we got really close to campus, I managed to stick with the bulk of Wreck, and then, roadrunner-like, Russell decided that he was going to catch the front group, busted off in front of me... hrm, when he runs, he doesn't look so much like an elf or a wolf or wind, but more like... a man, really. One who has to work hard to run fast. Anyway, he busted off, leaving LJ and myself behind. I did not finish last today :) It's amazing, really, how much of a kick you can have at the end of a run, even when you think there's nothing left in your legs. This whole operation took about 51 minutes, maybe ... on the order of six 'n' a half miles.
Ah, today, before my 2130 recitation, there was a fellow standing outside the stucen with a makeshift sandwich sign, advertising
www.notinourname.net, which is essentially a site for war protest organization. I asked him if he had pamphlets or something, which he didn't, but he told me that there were manifestations going on today. I looked up the site, found out that there was supposed to be one at the corner of Peachtree and North Ave (really close to Tech), and mulled over going... Wreck went pretty close to there, more or less when that was supposed to be happening, but I didn't see anybody out. Maybe it was earlier...
Ah, this weekend... the
Installfest went really well. I'd tried to show up early so as to help set things up, but somehow didn't manage to get into the building, so I went and picked up bagels instead. That was a good move -- they all got eaten :) We installed for something like 7 hours, and I was completely brainfried afterwards... I don't think I really recovered from that until this morning. A bunch of 2130 students came in, though, so that was a good thing. Oh man, this one guy came in, and he hadn't defragged his drive beforehand, and he wanted to dual-boot with XP, and his laptop didn't have a floppy drive (he had to go and get it) for partitionmagic, and his NTFS filesystem had this magical "break partitionmagic" option set on it, which we had to flip off, then on, then back off again... and then the RedHat installer took about forever, for some reason. And after all that, we had to fiddle with recompiling his kernel about five times. Oy vey. InstallFests are entertaining :)
Yesterday, hrm... I did church and went to go get some comics. Very nice. Then in the evening, I slept...
... and tonight, I'm going to head over to the CoC (Corey's asleep, and the lights are off), plug into the wall, and complete at least one of the three CS projects I've got impending. Ooh, and I switched over my Spanish class to "audit" (as in "not signed up for, but plan to continue showing up") mode, so there's no need to write essays for that, yay :) Yay for being signed up for 0 fluffy liberal arts-type classes. Maybe I'll eat something first.
