Evening Update
Mar. 13th, 2003 02:28 amToday's been sort of halfway between productive and uneventful. A good chunk of it, I spent working on the Squeak project... and my part of that is done, for now, as far as I can tell, handed off to Lisa and Daniel. She'd sounded pretty tired when she said that everything was fine and that they'd get it done tonight... eh. They're smart kids, they'll figure it out.
It's a bit disconcerting how easily I made the decision to hang around the room and work on Squeak instead of going to combinatorics this morning. I really need to do something about this... not showing up to class probably isn't helping on a class in which I'm already pretty far behind. It made sense at the time -- this is a group project, people are depending on me... that, and this is a CS class -- that's what I do, that's my thing, right? Who cares about a silly math class, in the face of ... hrm, an even sillier CS class. :-\
So aside from that, things have been going, pretty nicely. I ran a 2130 lab, spoke with my caffeine pusher (the young lady with blue-tipped hair who works at the coffee bar in the CoC basement -- she's apparently heading out to find a better job this Friday)... hrm... did more Squeak...
I spoke with Esther :) That's a good thing... although she was pretty well discombobulated from some misadventures involving bus stations and mal-sorted tickets... but she's now off visiting her relatives, hopefully without any further transportation issues... drive safely, everybody on the highways.
Ah, also, not too long ago, she pointed this out to me: The Beastie Boys have recently released a song for free on the 'net, entitled "In a World Gone Mad" -- it's excellent. You really can't argue with lyrics like "Now don’t get us wrong ‘cause we love America/But that’s no reason to get hysterica" ... the Beastie Boys are just cool :)
"No, you don't understand. That's what the name is called. The name really is, 'The Aged Aged Man'. " :)
Ah, also, I played some Street Fighter II with Harris and Tony. In Carson and Jimmy's room, they've got an SNES on which they play some pretty serious SFII Turbo fairly often. I brought the Stick (my Capcom Pad Soldier -- it's a black SNES controller with a pistol-grip and the buttons all laid out nicely for playing Street Fighter -- very threatening :) ) back from Tallahassee with the intent of playing with those guys... and I played a bunch of games with Harris, who (very politely) managed to take me about 10 times contiguously before finally going down in what would seem like a very unfair match: Guile vs. Dhalsim. I'll get better :) Just getting back into practice, having not really played serious Street Fighter for about two years. Truthfully, those guys are Quite Good, and a pleasure to play against. Somebody should do some research about gaming communities picking up different techniques... possibly they have already... (Alisa, your call?)
I remember the SF styles that people developed back in high school... they were more about getting throws and sweeps off than anything else -- and yet Harris's main strategy involved trying to get me stuck in the corner, which worked quite well, 'twould seem.
Yah, so I'm sure everyone's really fascinated with my stories about playing SFII :) What else is there to life? Writing computer programs, playing with them... heh :)
But I've got the rest of the week all laid out, and things are looking much rosier than they had been. Yay :) While it's kinda sad that Denise isn't coming by (she's not coming by, she says), it does rather simplify things. Brett had mentioned a road trip to Ohio... possibly this summer :) I don't see making this a weekend jaunt...
Maybe it's time to go to sleep... yes, I think it's about that time.
