¡Buenas tardes desde Madrid!
Jun. 30th, 2003 05:25 pmSo at this point, we´re sitting in the SpunkTech cybercafe in the university area in the lovely lovely city of Madrid :)
We got here safely, but the train ride from London to here was an adventure... twice (twice!) our train tickets got b0rked by clever train-ticket saleswomen, and we ended up (first) with a ticket for the wrong month, then secondly with a ticket for both the wrong city and the wrong day. Eventually we made it, though. And on the way, we got to see the amazing Basque towns of Irun and Vitoria... or at least their trainstations, with signs prominently displayed in everybody´s favourite obscure language... Basque. Yeah buddy :)
We´re staying in a little hostal run by this super-friendly guy named Paco. He´s kinda grandfatherly, comes across as well-read. He listens when you speak and expects to be heard when he opens his mouth... he´s a gentleman in the sense of being a gentle man.
Madrid is so cool :) Last night (we got in in the early evening), we were out walking around in the Puerta del Sol and the Plaza Mayor (our hostal is Right Freaking Next to both of them) and today we've been metro-ing around and walked and played in Parque de Retiro -- many playgrounds and small children and stuff :) Glory.
"I think we're good" says Natalie.
We're sitting in SpunkTech, which is right next to where I was staying last year... we've made a nostalgic pilgrimmage to where I lived, last year, when I was in Madrid for a month. It's a super-pretty area, and I'm finding my fingers are falling back into the Spanish-layout keyboard pretty easily :) Ah, and both google and LJ detected that our IP was coming from Spain and acted accordingly!
Yaaaay! :)
People that expect calls -- we'll call in the Near Future. We just bought a phonecard.
Peace out, homeslices!!
