Last night, we headed out to a karaoke bar just off of Puerta del Sol... which was absolutely hilarious :)

We showed up, so as not to look too silly, at around 11, to find that there was one other bar inhabitant -- an older fellow sitting on the couch and looking through the song selections. I ordered a bottle of water, and there we hung out... in a completely empty karaoke bar. I says to Natalie, "We're up in the club at 11... with a bottle of water and alone."

Apparently -- information for you world-traveling club-hoppers out there -- everybody in Madrid shows up to the Commo karaoke and discoteca at exactly 12:36. It was hilarious! This really big (well, short but thickly muscled) madrileño fellow who sang just about every other song, with a beautiful, strong singing voice, and he almost always chose these power-balads about how "ella tiene las llaves de mi corazon, y yo soy un soñador triste", in Spanish. We spoke with a British student-guy, James (who was just finishing up a year in Madrid) and his friends, who'd come along to sing silly songs with Spaniards...

... and we found out that, by being born in the wrong country, we missed out on the greatest dance song of all time: "La Chica Ye Ye". Nobody quite knows what that was... although later on in the evening, a large mass of young madrileñas did a collective (screechy) version of Sinatra's "My Way".

My list o' hits included: "Basket Case" (the British kids seemed to enjoy that one), "Sweet Dreams" (generally well received -- I hit the "Ah-ee-ah-ya-ya-ya-yas" pretty well :) ), and at least one or two others, and Natalie started off the evening with an S Club 7 song that I don't recall an did a rousing rendition of "Can't Get You Out of My Head" ... possibly other stuff as well.

... and this afternoon, we're headed to Barcelona, and when I popped into the 'net cafe, I had a cultural transferrence by singing along with the employees to the Metallica songs on the PA. Creo que a todo el mundo le gusta Metallica.

And that, as they say, was that. Have fun, keeds :)
