So this morning, I was walking back to Maclay from Forest Meadows, having gone for a run 'round Lake Jackson with some Maclay kids (Coach Manny and this young'un Andrew ended up burning me, but I ran gently back to Forest Meadows -- maybe an hour of running, total), and I was just enjoying being outside and thinking about interesting things that might be done, and I think "well, what if I drove up to Atlanta today?" ... with the intentions of visiting people, and running Tech-type errands, and getting hackmode back up.
... so I popped on up :) Relatively easy drive -- about four 'n' a half hours, with a quick stop for gas, one really bad traffic back-up, and some rain. I think, if I started with a full tank, didn't hit any bad traffic, and had good weather, this could definitely be done in four hours. I'm sitting on the couch in The Apartment Where All The Guys Live right now, and they've graciously put me up for the night. I've pretty much just been social, since I got here (aside from fixing hackmode -- funny thing, what was wrong with it... the fstab didn't mention the second harddrive, which was where we were keeping /usr and /home, so as you might imagine, things weren't working too well. Apparently the fstab got overwritten by somebody doing a careless etc-update. But it's fixed now), and Lisa came over (yay for Lisa coming over! :) ) and we all went to Moe's (after an exciting adventure where we explored the new Technology Square, which is actually Really Nice and Not That Far Away, and then tried to go to the Great Western Burrito Company, which is now Closed)... which I always enjoy, although apparently not everybody loves Moe's with the passion that I do.
After that, we headed off to Oxford Comics (although Tim and Shannon weren't thrilled about that) and Mike and myself headed off to drop Lisa off at her Lindy Hop class. Go Lisa with the Lindy-Hopping. After that, we just sort of hung around until Tim and Shannon and I popped out to Intermezzo, which was exciting -- I had a shot in the dark and a lovely hummus 'n' pita platter, and we Talked About Stuff. Then Shannon and myself engaged in some Tekken Tag Tournament (she's got skillZ), and then ... uh, we've been hanging around the apartment. And now everybody else is asleep, but I had a shot in the dark just after midnight, so ... well, I'll probably be asleep soonish.
I dunno if I'm going to leave tomorrow, but I'm definitely going to get some errands run before I skip town back to the Land o' Trees. And I might run out to Piedmont Park tomorrow. That'd be cool. SAC is closed, sadly, so my options for lifting are severely limited.
This is a wonderful set-up they've got... I think everybody who lives here has a laptop, and they're all sort of strewn about the room, all hooked into a wireless router (which gets run through hackmode, actually) and there are about a million game systems and computers in various phases of put-together-ness all over the place. It's an apartment with four CS geeks, an IAML geek-ette, and a mathematician who apparently has his own separate social network (but he's a pretty cool guy -- seems really friendly, actually).
Ah, and I spoke with Marty earlier. I'm excited about moving in for fall, and I forsee a relatively stress-free living environment.
yo mismo: I enjoy unloading dishwashers, actually :)
Marty: I like loading them myself.
yo mismo: Ah, rock on :)
yo mismo: ... so we're set.
Marty: :)
Marty: Oh yes.
... which isn't exactly the case 'round these parts, actually. There's a degree of civil unrest in this household, but ... well, the semester's almost over, and we get to try it again in a month. And next time, it'll be Much Better. Oh yesh.
Yesterday... I ran intervals at Maclay in the morning, tried to locate Sara S, but found out (from her father, who's doing pretty well -- we talked about running, and it turns out that he's doing a marathon soon) that she was in Gainesville, and ate lunch with Garrett. We then talked about lifting and nutrition and computers and stuff for a while... and then that evening, I hung out at Black Dog, had some coffee and a bagel with tomato and provolone, and worked on updating the PLG code (and got it all working except for some ALSA stuff), but didn't see anybody particularly interesting. I commented on a cool tshirt the girl at the counter was wearing (you know, the tall, thin one with short black hair), which had a cartoony picture of a drumset and read "Rock 'n' Roll", and she said something to the effect of "Thank you! My /boyfriend/ made it for me!"
*shrugs* Just pointing out a cool tshirt when I see one. I've been mulling over this sort of behaviour... just the implied "and I'm not available, but here's some coffee" built into statements like that. On the other hand, particular people 'round these parts have been using phrases like "Well, now that I don't have a boyfriend..."
*considers, shrugs, smiles, then pops off to pass out on the couch*
