Earlier on, I think over the weekend, Marty and Corey and myself were kicking around the idea of a centralized school-assignment and appointment system... at least how it was forming in my mind, instructors would stick homeworks into a central server (maybe running mysql or something) and you could pull down requested assignments in some sort of standard format (something like RSS) that could get parsed out by any number of different clients. An issue with this would be that all the instructors for all the classes would have to use the system, or else it wouldn't be particularly useful...

So you'd have these little XML objects coming down, and maybe your homework would be syndicated to LJ... or to a webpage that was sort of LJ-like, or to an entirely separate application, or to a different entirely separate application if you wanted to write your own :) And there could be versions in Java, and for windoze, and for commandline UNIX, and it could sync with your PDA, and it could be a little ticker at the bottom of your screen, and it could get sent as a textmsg to your cellphone, and ...

Marty thinks (and I think it's a good idea) that the only users in the system should be the instructors, who own classes -- that there's no particular state associated with an individual user, and that you can't (as a student) log in -- any requests you make just include the classes you want the assignments for. I think it was his idea that the thing itself should be a mysql server as well... and you should be able to create your own little XML event things that'll only live in your client, so you can use it to keep track of appointments and to-do type things...

I just want a Friends page full of homework... eh...

Oh wow, and maybe it's a bit more decentralized than that, and maybe for group projects, you can post messages that apply to your group members, and you can act like a server for a little while...

Last night, when I was walking back from rehearsal for the play we're doing for Hispanic Drama Workshop, there was a girl named Jennifer standing outside Dramatech spinning glowy strings around her head. I happened to be contact-juggling a lacrosse ball at that point, and we had an interesting chat about object-manipulation. It turns out that what she was doing is called poi, and apparently it's a Maori thing. Go read about it; it's cool. Object-manipulators tend to make friends with other object-manipulators quickly :)

Tonight, while skating back from the stucen, I ran into a guy who was riding a unicycle up and down a staircase out by that manufacturing building across the street from SAC field. You know the place. We had a friendly, if small, exchange. I was impressed.

I've been playing phone-tag with Lloyd. Eventually, we'll catch up with each other :)

I should get some more work done. There's a probstat test coming soon. And a lot of other things to do :-\
