Hey yo, kiznids :)

Sorry if I've been a bit unresponsive, or just plain Not There for a while... I've been working on the cs4611 project, which is Due Tomorrow, and it's been somewhat threatening. It'd been out for a while, but I had only been vaguely rolling it around in my mind (because, obviously, you can't start on a project until a few days before it's due...) with the idea that it would be better explained in class... it's a "do a search across a map" sort of project, and we're working on a map of the campus, to start out...

Well, the spec still remains somewhat vague, but I've been reassured about it, and once you get down to business, Make A List And Cross Things Out, figure out how to make emacs do what you want it to do -- it's still not terribly intuitive, but I'm liking it much more with the fonts pumped up and the colourful-on-black scheme, and it's hard to beat having your LISP interpreter running inside your text editor -- ... well, then things don't look quite s'grim :)

Ashok is still freaking awesome. While he never made it entirely clear how he'd thought we should do this project, when I spoke with him on Monday about how much it was worrying me (as in, while I spend a lot of time crunching coordinates and doing trig, he suggested that we don't need to use any coordinates or even any specific numbers at all!!), one of the first things he said was that I shouldn't worry so much about it -- that if I wasn't grasping the KBAI style of doing this problem now, then surely I would figure it out pretty soon, and that I should just keep on hacking at what I've got going. And not to worry too much about my grade, because whatever happens, this first bit won't wreck it too badly. So essentially, after speaking with him, I relaxed a bit, and it's been going slowly, but steadily, since then...

So tonight, having built and populated all the datastructures, I've just got to do the actual searching (and cache/reuse the results of the searches), and that won't be too bad, because I've already got a (numerical/ML-style, but Provably Optimal) search algorithm ready to go. And then I have to write it all up, print it out, and have it ready to go before 3pm tomorrow.

This can be done. I slept a lot less last year for the Scorched Earth project.
