Monday night considerations...
Aug. 24th, 2004 12:09 amIt was a terribly interesting weekend... I popped down to Safety Harbor (near Tampa, if you're not familiar with the area) for my cousin Bernard's bar mitzvah, and my father's side of the family was there, and I saw people I hadn't seen for a long time, and we listened to lots and lots of words pronounced in Hebrew... which is like very important. The family was very real and present, and everybody seemed glad to see each other, though... my great-grandmother had just passed away last Tuesday (and most of the people had been to south Florida for the funeral on Thursday), and it's interesting how a death in the family brings everybody together and makes the present more immediately real... but it was good. I had long discussions with family about stuff: living, death, mind, language, faith... turns out that a lot of the relatives are much more agnostic than previously supposed.
And perhaps most importantly, at the After-Bar-Mitzvah party, we danced in a circle to Hava Nagila and hefted people up in the air in chairs. I mean, are we Jewish, or what?
I spoke with Natalie tonight, and she's all moved in at UNF and doing her thing, meeting people, and getting everything set up appropriately... she sounds happy, which is terribly pleasing.
Also tonight, I finally met Katy
xphilega in person, and we had tasty Chinese food for dinner, yay :)
Tomorrow is going to be busy. Perhaps I should go pass out.
