saturday afternoon, out and about
Nov. 6th, 2004 03:37 pm- If there's depressing ska, it's The Slackers. They make me want to pull out the trombone and be in a ska band and play gently-muted slow, angsty 'bone solos, through an echo-y dub-reggae-esque filter. I think you know exactly what I'm getting at.
- There is no longer a K-mart on Piedmont. However, there are still Mexican day laborers waiting around for jobs in the parking lot by the home depot. Your life is not as hard as that of the Mexican day laborers waiting for jobs in the parking lot by the home depot, no matter how many hours a day you spend sitting in front of your computer. There are people who believe that everybody's got an opportunity to have a cushy job sitting in front of a computer, or that if you have no money, you can just work very, very hard to get some extra money, get educated, go to Tech, and then get a job with a major computer corporation, writing desktop applications with the win32 API for longhorn. If opportunities were equal, or close to it, there would be some kids who weren't white or Indian or east-Asian in my AI class.
- The guy with the baton (earlier mentioned here) was out again, this time on Piedmont near Ansley Mall. This time, he was wearing a big blue M&M suit. Also, speaking of Ansley Mall, this is where they keep Phidippides, which is the very coolest running store I've seen, anywhere. Maybe even cooler than Shaw's, back in Tallahassee. They do the Right Thing for fitting you with running shoes, which is to say that they have you try on lots of different pairs, watch you run and see what your foot does, and do iterative refinement on that. I came out with a lovely pair of Mizuno WaveRiders.
- I think, on the average, that black people tend to like the blue hair. At least it seems like they comment on it more often. Also, older women.
- ... something or another. Enjoy your day.
