- We've got the go-ahead for plan "get an MS at Tech before heading off to PhD-land" from the rest of the family; this is terribly, terribly pleasing. It took a bit of discussion, because some of us thought that it'd be better to go straight to PhD land. (This was after discussion with one Mr. Howard Huff, who'd been involved with SCRI (the FSU supercomputer group) back in the day -- and he was of that latter opinion)

(I feel like a smaller version of Stevie sstrickl, although somehow less excited about type systems.)

- New guitars are much nicer than new cars. I tried out both today, and while the VW saleslady was a lot cuter than the nice older gentleman at the little guitar shop off of Monroe Street... he knows more about amps and distortion. And a nice 'lectric guitar sounds a lot better than a Jetta wagon.

- Speaking of trying things out, I've been using XFCE on eowyn. It's pretty nice. I'd recommend giving it a go, for those of you of the UNIX persuasion who like {Open,Flux,Black}box and Aqua (the OS X interface) -- it's sort of like a happy medium between the two. Also, it's really fast :) Like, not that much slower than Flux, which is saying a lot.

- I realized today how dependent I am on parental approval. And I'm thankful that it's generally been available. Yay for good family relationships.
