- I'm all up in the CoC on the first day of classes. It's a well-understood phenomenon, the excitement at the beginning of the school-year. Everybody's all well-groomed and bright-eyed... and our new friend Roland (who showed up from Germany this past Saturday) is in Theory -- very exciting... and Marty, that Venkat kid wants to get everybody with overload requests into the class -- he's trying to get people to drop or switch into more advanced classes :)
- Kitties have taken up residence in our abode. They're adorable :) There's this partition in the rock-out room (walling off the AC equipment) and they can climb staight up the side. And they like sitting in Andrew's chair and trying to jump into my bed at night.
- We saw that Brett
zip4096 character last night and had tasty tasty Noodle and Jake's and watched Master of the Flying Guillotine. It was pretty awesome :)
- Aight, off for great productivity!!
- (post-productivity note): I think the intelligent systems reading group thing is going to be pretty awesome -- today we talked about probabilistic mumblefoo and got to watch Charles and Thad bounce off of each other, and a bunch of friendly-clever AI gradstudent folks were there, and I had a pretty good handle on the paper we talked about, bizarrely. This should be instructive. And the TSRB is going to be a much more awesome place to work than CRB -- it has free coffee and all sorts of awesome clever people milling around. I'm a total fanboy for CS professors, it's pretty silly. But Amy and Michael Mateas are already here, and both Janet and Ashok's labs -- the ones I do stuff for --- are moving into this building soon. It'll be a much more cheerful environment than the mournful gross CRB.
- Really sorry about the hackmode.org downtime. It'll be up this weekend, with a fresh install of Gentoo or maybe OpenBSD. You won't notice the difference.
