weekend report!
Jul. 12th, 2010 12:58 amGot back tonight from a trip to Ithaca to see that Lindsey
lindseykuper character! Ithaca is pretty hip. We found, in no particular order, the farmer's market (with all kinds of fresh produce and delicious ready-made food), an amazing used book store, the optometrist where Lindsey got some sweet new glasses, and some Thai food.
I was thinking about the psychology of used book stores as I was busy buying a big old pile of books: they've got all these interesting cues. The books seem somewhat rare, maybe out of print or at least not likely to be found at your neighborhood Barnes and Noble. They're Here Right Now (and who knows when you'll be back?), so you have to make the choice to buy them before somebody else does. So it's really important that you snag them, especially at these really reasonable prices! (acquired: some more Nietzsche, The Emperor's New Mind, some Jackendoff, etc...)
Speaking of food: it turns out that the $3 falafel advertised by those ubiquitous street carts, such as for example the one right on my block? Delicious.
Just got my tickets for The Next Hope. Will it be amazing? Will it be hacker-pretentious? We'll find out! But information wants to be free, and I'll share my impressions with you to be sure.
