hanging out in flamingotowne
Dec. 27th, 2011 12:58 amRebecca and Cameron got married!! We were in San Antonio for their wedding, and met all their lovely friends. That was Thursday. Now we're in Tallahassee with my family.
We've had an incredibly relaxed few days over the break. It's been beautiful. It's so warm in Florida. We've been doing some running in the woods, and a whole lot of sitting and chatting and reading.
I love my family so much: it feels so natural to be here, just so easy; I think Lindsey even feels the same way. We played some Rock Band. Ate a bunch of food. Gave gifts. So beautiful! (I'm really fortunate for this; I appreciate that not everybody finds it relaxing to hang out with their folks)
Today we saw Brett and Garrett, which is always a pleasure. Brett is going to go through some really interesting life changes soon: if you know him, I'll let him tell you about it. We had some pretty good Chinese food, then went for coffee, and just talked for hours.
It was bizarre driving around today, though -- trying to navigate Tallahassee is like bad dream territory, in that everything looks familiar, I completely remember all the streets and buildings and intersections, but I'm very likely to make wrong turns. I have little snatches of memory about where to go, but they seem to be wrong. Do you have dreams like that?
I've been awful at writing here. I think it's healthy to reflect on what you did during the day, so the time doesn't just slip by. I should do more reflecting and writing and less furious Twitter reloading; reading more books would be good too. I've got such a stack of them now...
I find that my ability to focus, or at least my urge to furiously refresh social media and RT like the day is long, has greatly increased since the next congressional SOPA hearing won't happen until next year. I fully expect to CALL ALL THE CONGRESSPERSONS again, once they start trying to censor the Internet again. It's getting my hackles up just thinking about it; I should chillax and read my nice new book about MT, at least for the next few days.
