given more time or some clones...
Dec. 10th, 2011 07:56 pmIf I had arbitrary energy and time, or perhaps just a Calvin-and-Hobbes-style duplicator machine, I'd probably do social sciences on online communities, particularly dating sites.
Actually, that's not quite true. My first extra-person worth of effort would probably go to projects like Tor or Wikileaks or even Overview. I would spin off a me to work on open source projects that seem like they're helping, or could help, move information around in a more democratic way.
My second clone would be assigned to social sciences research. Number three might actually go into politics.
Would you vote for a clone of me? I was thinking about this semi-seriously today: why don't we see more well-meaning angry socialists on the national stage politics? Is it just that the entrenched interests and parties manage to keep them out, actively or passively, or maybe I'm actually very out of tune with what actual USians believe?
I feel like being up front about it all (eg, secular humanist worldview, socialist tendencies) would be charming, though: surely people would see my huge heart and my respect for human rights and learning and science and art, and vote for me? Surely.
(hrm, this has basically already happened with Lindsey's mother Marian ...)
