I've been all full of energy recently. Optimism and activity. Working on stuff, putting together and releasing a new version of JES... those CS 1315 kids have a new major version to play with now, they'll be so excited :) We only had one horrible issue that needed fixing after the official release, heh! (but it's fixed now)

And I've been talking with Google. Have I mentioned this, O blogosphere? At first, it looked like I'd have to move to Mountain View (in the Yay Area!) or NYC to work for them, but it turns out that they're hiring at the Atlanta office right down the street. Apparently my first interview was pretty alright :) I don't want to get too fixated on or committed to them, though; there might be cooler or more interesting jobs around! We'll see. Options are open.

Also, I'm at lovely Lake Tahoe, right on the California/Nevada border, on the annual ski trip with the father. The whole hotel-casino thing had made me fairly uncomfortable in years past; lingering semi-ascetic tendencies, I suppose. It's interesting how (one's perception of) time sort of flows together when you do a similar trip repeatedly...

*laughs, hugs* Thanks, Graham!

It's easier to be a good man in the company of good friends :)

The Yay Area. Oh, man. I'm kicking you out of the car for that.

Mad congratulations on the job prospects, and on finding that shirt! If you do end up in NYC, I'll visit you on one of my work trips there. And if you end up in the Bay Area, I'll visit you when I...um...go to Stanford.

*makes a thizz face!*

You say "kicking you out of the car" to mean "okay, now it's your turn to ghost-ride the whip"?

It sounds like a plan :)

Good luck with Google!

And if you do get the job, don't get fat. Free gourmet food is the devil!

I'll try to avoid it! I've heard that too, that lots of new hires do end up putting on some pounds...

(thing the first is getting hired, of course)

omg, a post!

yay to everything (even though you'd already told me about it and i expressed this sentiment at that point)!

come home soon, but not so soon that you didn't finish having fun.

man, if you worked for google and ate good stuff all the time, you might get up to *gasp* 6% body fat.... horror of horrors!

Fun is in progress! Maybe it won't be so ridiculously cold tomorrow; it's supposed to be sunnier, at least? ...

Yay, yes! :) See you soon!

So, will you be working with Brett?  That would be truly awe inspiring.  With the two of you, working together, and the resources of the world's largest and most powerful data searching and archiving corporation behind you, you could easily control the world, my friend.

(You're going to have to talk your dad into coming to a ski resort in Colorado one of these days.  They're much better than any of the other resorts out there, at least when it comes to being-near-old-friends-from-high-school.)

*laughs* Thanks for the confidence! And Brett and I wouldn't be working on the same stuff, I think... but I'm pretty excited about the possibilities, particularly about getting to work with their super-gigantic language samples and MapReduce (http://labs.google.com/papers/mapreduce.html) on big clusters...

And actually, Tim [livejournal.com profile] neuroticmonk and I have been kicking around the idea of coming out for a trip later on in the winter, or maybe early spring! He's from Colorado Springs, so we'd probably be in your neighborhood :)
