I'm at home, safe and happy, after a thoroughly uneventful drive from the 404 to the 850. The dogs are here, the family is here (although everybody's asleep :) ), and the house is more or less how I left it. I'm using the family winxp box to connect back to Tech and fix up some last-minute things on this week's game, and considering going to sleep in the near future...

I stopped in at a Wa-Ho a bit north of Macon, and this was an interesting experience -- one of the off-duty waitresses was enjoying the Dixie Chicks version of "Landslide", and I asked what she thought about the other versions... apparently she wasn't aware that there were any. *shrugs* Smashing Pumpkins generally get more style points in my book :) This was... almost more Wa-Ho-like than any other Waffle House I've been in. It wasn't kept particularly clean, was run by some fairly countrified folks who all knew each other really well and had the sort of continual in-jokes that you'd expect from a group of people working at a job they don't particularly care about, but don't particularly loathe going. One waitress there was bringing cups of coffee around, and she didn't seem to mind so much that she wasn't holding them quite upright -- by the time it got to the counter in front of me, my coffee was about a third empty.

*shrugs* It's a Waffle House. What're you going to say?

I spent the rest of the journey flipping through radio stations, singing, sort of vaguely thinking about stuff, and getting excited about being home :)

... and now I'm home. Yay!

Yay!

"But if a Waffle House loses its waffle-houseness, how can it be made Waffle
House again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by the feet of men."

I just realized that I can give out LJ account generation codes, and there's nobody called "samarin" yet :) Any desire for one, Marty?

Questionable. I'm not sure if my journals are ready to escape my freshly-dropped-and-dying laptop hard drive yet though. I'll get back to you. :)

Oof... I'm so sorry about that... will you be able to snag another HD for your machine? And what is it about your genes or habits that causes your drives to die?
