Hey Sweeney [livejournal.com profile] agonistes -- Mark and I went to go vote this morning!

At the Fulton County government center, there was a giant line of people waiting to vote -- it ended up taking like two hours! But everybody was pretty cheerful, even the poll workers and staff. In the MARTA station on our way back, I met an Obama campaign representative (she gave us stickers) and asked about specific volunteer opportunities; I may be taking Election Day off to drive people around.

Georgia As Swing State: yes we can?

I'm not convinced yet, but this may be an encouraging sign for Obama.

I hope Georgia swings. Of course, given what the economy is doing, it might not matter what the Obama Campaign does. :-) (wait... :-( Or, no, ... :-/ ???)

I spent the morning canvassing voters, and wound up "wasting" 3 hours talking to a wonderfully intelligent lady in her 80s who lived through the depression and swears we have no idea how to deal with that sort of thing these days.

Once Obama takes office, though, I have serious concerns that our economic circumstances will overwhelm whatever he manages to get done. We need to prepare for a seriously declining economy over the next 2 years, here.

I know we need to take things one step at a time, but I can't seem to get my mind off of the future... Which is causing me no end of strife right now. It's all in my head for now, thankfully, but I sincerely need to work out a plan, here.

Yes we can. As Obama precinct captains in Iowa last January our vision was this: if Obama can win Iowa, he can win the nation. Obama won Iowa. Let's finish this thing right!

I got an email a couple days ago about driving people to the polls:

Greetings,
Advance Voting in Georgia begins on MONDAY! Voters will be going to the polls next week, October 27th through October 31st, and we are gearing up to help get them there.

(If you need details about where to vote this week or on November 4th please reply to this message and we'll re-send that information.)

Thanks to many of you, the Obama 49'ers have raised funds for driving voters to the polls during Advance Voting and on Election Day. We're seeking volunteers to join us in this effort - so if you are willing and able to participate please respond to this message with the following details:

* name(s) of driver(s),
* phone contact information, and email address,
* dates you can drive, and times you can drive,
* your zip code, and county/area where you prefer to be driving.

We will be working with the volunteer bipartisan group The Voter Drive to coordinate and provide rides over the metro Atlanta and North Fulton counties, including Gwinnett and Cobb. You can visit this group's website at webpage at http://www.thevoterdrive.com

Suzanne Ray is serving as Drive Team Captain up here in North Fulton County. You can always reach her via this email address, and she'll be sending you forms and information as we go forward to let you know exactly what to do.

Thank you again, and we look forward to a busy and successful week at the polls!

You can probably go to thevoterdrive.com or email the person who sent this to me (northfulton.citizens at gmail dot com) if you need more information.
