This past weekend, Lindsey and I drove to Atlanta for Kelly and Erik's wedding! We headed out on Friday afternoon and drove into the night, showing up at Alsie and Mark's place in Midtown pretty late. It was fantastic to see them, and they sat up with us for a while and chatted, and Alsie made us some delicious tea. The tea was especially welcome, because for whatever reason I'd lost my voice on the way down.

On Saturday, we woke up at their place and headed to Radial for brunch, and it was delicious, and in the afternoon we went over to Madison for the big event, which was at this nice farmhouse out in the country. There were a bunch of Atlanta people we'd met, mostly in the Kelly-and-Erik context, but perhaps most importantly, there was Rob [livejournal.com profile] poodleface, who was all in effect as the DJ. The ceremony was lovely, and the reception had nice southern-style food with vegetarian variants for the hippies in attendance. And Rob rocked the DJ-ing pretty hard, and we danced and danced.

Atlanta's a beautiful place. But spending the summer in New York made it clear how car-centric Atlanta is. Even in Midtown, which is pretty pedestrian-friendly as Atlanta goes, people standing on any given corner look tiny compared to the big, broad roads and the enormous SUVs rumbling by. What I thought of as a pretty dense urban space is wide and open, comparatively.

Wide and open, but some parts are apparently quite dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists. http://www.pbs.org/wnet/need-to-know/video/blueprint-america-special-report-crossing-the-line/2429/

Oh, for sure. I've personally been hit with a car. Atlanta isn't a very good place for cyclists.

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know that. I didn't mean to evoke a bad memory.

No worries! I just meant to say that I don't have too many illusions about it somehow being safe!

(and I recovered pretty quickly anyway, even if my arm was in a cast for September 2006.)
