So yesterday, I went to see Jennifer the Excellent Academic Advisor, and we were looking at what's left between now and graduation... and it turns out that there are only five classes that I need to take... there are a few more that I /want/ to take, mind, but only five that I need. Compilers won't actually get me closer to gradumacating, it turns out... but this means that I've got a better excuse to take Networking... everybody taking that seems to be enjoying it, yes?

It's really disturbing, realizing how close I am to having to figure out what to do next. I really don't know where I should be applying, but Now Is The Time to find out. I suppose I need to figure out what the deal is with GREs and whatnot...

But she was so encouraging -- it's a good thing when it seems like the academic advisor thinks you're cool. I mentioned the summer program at JHU's CLSP, and she said, "Oh, I'm sure you'll get into that..." ... but we worked out what would happen if I didn't (like which classes I could take over the summer)... and figured that gradumacation is coming... well, in the Spring, at the latest. Fall, likely, if I don't go to JHU.

However! However!
Dear Alexander,

I am happy to inform you that you have passed the first round of screening for the NSF sponsored 2004 summer research internships at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Language and Speech Processing. We received more than 75 applications for these internships and making it past a rigorous screening to this short-list is itself a reflection of your outstanding credentials. Congratulations!

... so now I get to explain to them, in greater detail, just why I am, in fact, "Da Bomb" and get Kurt to write a letter about me... hrm. I think the roughest bit here is going to be:

4. IMPORTANT: Please describe (approx. 200 words) a project you have undertaken which best highlights your PROGRAMMING skills. First briefly describe the overall goal of the project and the component(s) you were responsible for programming. Then describe in some detail the programming techniques and algorithms you used.

Eh... it'll get figured out. But... you know... rawk :)

And, honey, this complaining about how "soon" graduation is when you're still undecided? I want to hear none of it. ;-)
