Let A and B be two particular people I know.

At one point, B said to me, "You can't /really/ like A, you're just being blindly open-minded and trying to purvey this image where you like everybody. If you were really paying attention and being honest, you would see that A is upsetting and obnoxious, and you wouldn't like A at all."

And I think I said, at that point, that no, I really did think that A was a pretty cool person. And you know what? I still think that this person A is an entertaining, intelligent, and Deeply Good dude, and that I enjoy being around him!

I was just thinking about that, because I saw him today, and it was fun.

I think it's because you're drawn to opinionated people, because they're interesting and you're open-minded (just like the strippers like (http://www.livejournal.com/users/rw_conspiracy/71201.html)). But opinionated people don't always get along. So you end up with a lot of friends that don't necessarily like each other.

I have the same problem to a certain extent. I think it's a good thing... to know that I don't just have friends that are exactly like me.

Oooh! Oooh! Since I'm Person B, I know who Person A is!

And you misquoted me. You were all about liking Person A, but since you were grossly ignorant of something regarding him, I concluded that you can't really pay that much attention to him.

And, Will, dude, what is it with you and strippers? I mean, honestly, if I was naive and looking to find Jesus, you'd kinda set a nonBiblical example, y'know? I'm just curious.

Consider it a paraphrase, then.

And you know what? I still think that this person A is an entertaining, intelligent, and Deeply Good dude, and that I enjoy being around him!

You're entitled. Sometimes, I'm happy to see him, too. Just make sure you don't consider his personality too closely. ;)

no offense intended:
It seems that alex may know his mind better than you... now I have no idea who person A is (or maybe B, that particular part of the conversation is outside the scope of this window) so you may very well know them better than Alex but that doesn't eliminate the possibility (or from what I know of alex the probability) that he may like them despite these large, glaring, and reprehensible qualities.

Using myself as an example: I would say that I like, as a person (that has flaws, as we all do), and enjoy being around person C. It may be worth noting that I have, with complete conviction, called (to their face and in front of an audience) a "wretched excuse for a human." It seems clear that I recognize person C's flaws but like them despite them... on this note, I make no claim's to be anywhere near perfect, or to like everybody, but I do try (although both are near-to-futile)

You're missing my point. All I said was that

You're missing my point. All I said was that I found it amusing that he likes Person A so much, but was ignorant to a glaring fact about Person A that's rather difficult to miss.

"No offense," but don't make it into something it's not.
