bunch o' stuff
Jun. 13th, 2003 11:30 pmThere's a whole lot going on right now, and I don't know how I feel about a lot of it. I want to write about these things, but it's odd... it would feel strange writing just for myself -- I've grown accustomed to the whole LJ thing, where I'm writing for an audience. It's sort of a disassociation from my own thoughts and feelings, really -- if My Journal is something that other people can (and do) read, then I just don't want to write down my thoughts on Stuff unless it's something I'm comfortable sharing.
All of this, of course, implies to all you kids out on the Information Superhighway, that there's >= 1 thing that I'm uncomfortable talking about right now. Oh yesh.
So we're writing a device driver. Or at least Brett and Gil are writing a device driver, and for the moment I've assigned myself the task of putting together a little app to talk to said driver... it's going to be all gtk and SDL and video4linux and everything, and it'll talk to our framegrabber and grab frames and maybe show a live video feed. There're a few similar programs out there, such as ammp, which is actually really cleanly written and beautiful (I was looking at the source earlier this evening) and will probably be really useful in helping me figure out how to Make This Work, which I'd like to have mostly done by the end of the weekend so's I don't feel like so much of a bump on a log.
There are a whole bunch of interesting people in this class... Gil and Theresa (they're an item, and she and I played racquetball this afternoon, which was fun) are apparently planning on just randomly going to Bombay with Canan, whose name I've probably misspelt, and who's from that area; he's one of several really interesting Indian grad students in the class. It's really funky, talking with them, particularly about religion and culture and languages and bein' vegetarian...
Hrum. Stuff. *blinks* There's more to say. We'll see how things go. :-P
